What is a Game Drive in South Africa?

Searching for wild animals with a safari truck., that’s what ‘Game Drives’ are all about. In other words: a real safari in South Africa. A game drive is highly recommended if you are staying in one of the villas of Homes of Africa. Game Drives can easily be organised. You can enjoy one within 10 minutes of the villas.

Morning game drive

Wild animals are often active early in the morning and late in the afternoon. This is the reason why game drives always leave very early, around 5.00 AM (depending on the season). Usually a morning game drive takes 3-4 hours, including an extensive breakfast. During the game drive, coffee with some snacks is offered.

Afternoon game drive

At the end of the afternoon, often around 4:00 PM, the afternoon game drive departs, which takes about 3 hours on average. During this drive, there is often a stop for a “sundowner drink” where you watch the sunset while enjoying a snack and a drink. You then drive in the dark for a while. Because of this you will experience the wild animals both in daylight and in the dark.

It’s also possible to go on a safari of your own, for example in the Kruger Park or around the holiday homes.

Why choose for a Game Drive in South Africa?

  • You get driven around, all you do is enjoy the trip
  • You’ll most likely come across more animals than if you were to go on safari independently
  • You learn a lot about the wild animals and nature
  • Possibility of encountering the Big 5
