Hoedspruit offers you a wide variety of stores and shops where you will find all your day to day shopping and groceries. There are various shops & restaurants that sell souvenirs and crafts as well. All shops are open on weekdays and Saturday morning. Both supermarkets are open on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning as well. Please note that it is forbidden by law to sell alcohol in South Africa on Sunday.
KAMOGELO TOURISM CENTRE
Situated in the heart of Hoedspruit town, Kamogelo Tourism Centre offers an exciting shopping experience, with a variety of stores. Enjoy a family shopping day, with a lovely play area for the kids. Kamogelo, which means “Welcome in my shop”, provides a unique south African shopping experience with its wooden walkways and lush garden areas. Kamogelo is situated along the R527, at the entrance of Hoedspruit Town (coming from Lydenburg direction).
PICK ‘N PAY CENTRE
Just before the entrance of Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate you will find the Pick ‘n Pay Centre (turn right). Pick ‘n Pay is one of the major supermarkets in South Africa and offers a wide variety of groceries for your everyday shopping needs. Next to the Pick ‘n Pay is a liquor store where liquor and wines are available. The Pick ‘n Pay Centre has various other shops as well. The Pick ‘n Pay Centre is easily accessible from the R40 (coming from the R527, turn right on the T-Junction, first left and immediately right again, opposite KFC).
SPAR / LEADWOOD CENTRE
Along the R527, almost in the centre of town, you will find the Spar / Leadwood shopping centre, entrance at the Total petrol station. Spar offers shopping and groceries that is similar to Pick ‘n Pay. For liquor and wines, you will find the Spar liquor store at the entrance of the centre.
ROCK FIG CENTRE
The latest jewel in Hoedspruit’s growing business crown is the opening of the modern, aesthetically styled Rock Fig Lifestyle Centre near Pick ‘n Pay. An antique and irresistible ox wagon is situated in lush gardens at the entrance to the centre, which houses several boutique shops and a restaurant / coffee shop. The restaurant boasts an incredible play area for the kids to enjoy while enjoying your meal.
BOSVELD SLAGHUIS (BUTCHERY)
Bosveld Slaghuis is THE place to go when looking for a real South African braai (BBQ) experience. Top cuts of steak and other meats are available at affordable prices and will make your braai a great success! Bosveld Slaghuis is located next to La Bamba supermarket, next to the Total petrol station and KFC.
NELSPRUIT / WHITE RIVER
Should you wish to do some serious shopping Nelspruit is the place to go. Two major shopping malls will cater for all your needs. The Riverside Mall (on your left-hand side when you enter Nelspruit coming from White River) and Ilanga Mall on the N4 leaving Nelspruit in the direction Johannesburg / Pretoria. From Hoedspruit you follow the R40 direction Hazyview (100 km). From Hazyview you follow the R40 towards White River (40 km from Hazyview). In White River you follow the signs for Nelspruit (Mbombela). The total distance is 160 km’s, please note that the road takes you through Acornhoek and Bushbuck Ridge, both widely spread townships. It is a perfectly safe route to drive, but you will have to set approximately two hours aside to get to Nelspruit. Make a stop at Perry’s Bridge, a quaint boutique shopping centre at the entrance of Hazyview or at Casterbridge Farm, a restored farmhouse converted into a boutique shopping centre just before you enter White River. As stated above the road to Nelspruit carries you through the townships Acornhoek and Bushbuck Ridge. The road can be busy in these townships, and it happens often that apart from cars you will find pedestrians, dogs, sheep, cows and goats on the road. Because of this it is advisable to return to Hoedspruit at 16h00 latest to avoid driving in the dark.
