South Africa’s electricity company (Eskom) has many problems with the supply of electricity that put pressure on energy management across the country. This means that the total available electricity is distributed across the country. As a result, there is no electricity in certain (pre-planned and communicated) time blocks. This phenomenon is called load shedding. In other words, this leaves all of South Africa with insufficient electricity to meet demand. This causes problems all over the country.

Fortunately, almost all Homes of Africa villas have a backup battery and/or solar panels, so that necessary electricity supplies such as: lighting, WiFi and the refrigerator can continue to run. So you hardly notice Loadshedding. You will be told by our host on site which time blocks are ‘touched’ by Loadshedding. You can also check the current status and availability of electricity for the Hoedspruit region in the app: EskomSePush. Download it here: https://sepush.co.za/. It goes without saying that the need is great, and the electricity company will do everything it can to solve this problem as quickly as possible.

And who knows, this unpleasant situation may also bring you something beautiful in addition to discomfort: because imagine a beautiful evening, without Wi-Fi, electricity and TV, surrounded by candles, in the middle of the beautiful African bush and the rustling of animals around you… But without this craziness and romantic fantasy, we hope for your understanding in this situation that is completely beyond our control.

If you have any questions about this, please let us know.
